Customer Overview

Securitas India operates in the security services and background verification space, managing critical business data on a primarily on-premise setup. Their infrastructure relied on a single virtualized server that hosted the database, file services, and core application data.

While the system supported daily operations, it lacked the scalability and resilience required for long-term business continuity.

The Challenge

The existing setup created a single point of failure, with no structured disaster recovery mechanism in place. Backup processes were limited and lacked proper retention policies, increasing the risk of data loss and downtime.

At the same time, the customer wanted to explore cloud adoption-but without the complexity and disruption of a full migration.

What Needed to Be Achieved

The goal was to introduce a reliable disaster recovery setup while keeping the transition simple and cost-effective.

At the same time, the customer wanted to explore cloud adoption-but without the complexity and disruption of a full migration.

Key priorities included:
  • Setting up an on-demand Azure-based DR environment
  • Securing application data, database backups, and file services
  • Introducing a tiered storage model (Hot, Cool, Archive)
  • Ensuring consistent data synchronization
  • Enabling visibility through monitoring and alerts

The Solution

A structured Azure-based approach was implemented to strengthen both disaster recovery and backup efficiency without overhauling the existing system.

An Azure Virtual Machine was deployed to support application and database workloads in a DR-ready environment. File storage was moved to Azure with lifecycle policies in place, enabling intelligent data movement across Hot, Cool, and Archive tiers for cost optimization.

To maintain data integrity, a defined synchronization strategy was introduced—database backups were synced every 24 hours, while transaction logs were updated every 15 minutes. This ensured near real-time recovery readiness.

Additionally, a selective file backup approach was implemented to avoid unnecessary storage usage while still protecting critical data.

Monitoring and alerting were enabled through Azure Monitor, giving the team better visibility and control over the environment.

Business Impact

The solution significantly reduced the risk associated with a single-server dependency while enabling a smooth entry into cloud adoption.

Downtime and data loss risks were minimized, and the organization gained a more resilient and scalable infrastructure. Importantly, this was achieved without disrupting existing operations or introducing unnecessary complexity.

Overall, the approach delivered a cost-effective disaster recovery model, positioning the business for future growth with a more reliable and flexible IT foundation.
